We draw it
Our illustrators turn your material into precise technical drawings.
- Where the invention suits it, we build a 3D model to the dimensions you supply
- Views are then generated from that model, so the figures cannot disagree
- Anything not suited to a model is drawn by hand to the same USPTO standard

Why do you price patent drawings per figure instead of per sheet?
A figure is an individual illustrated view or diagram. Each figure requires drafting work, regardless of how many figures fit on a sheet. Pricing per figure reflects that work, keeps your quote independent of page layout, and makes additional views easier to price.
How the accuracy happens
When your invention can be built in 3D, we build it.
Not everything can be. A flowchart, a circuit diagram or a simple two-dimensional mechanism has nothing to model. But where there is a three-dimensional object to build, we build it and generate the drawings from the model rather than drawing each view separately. That is what keeps the figures accurate to your specification.
Read how 3D modeling improves patent drawings-
Built to your specification
When we model an invention, every component is built to the dimensions you supply, so the drawing reflects the invention rather than an interpretation of it.
-
Every view from one model
Front, back, side, top, bottom and sectional views are then generated from the same model, so no two figures can disagree with each other.
-
Revisions regenerate cleanly
When the design changes, the model changes and every associated view updates with it. Nothing is left showing the old version.
Where a 3D model is not the right tool, or the invention has no three-dimensional form to build, the drawings are prepared by hand to exactly the same USPTO standard. We will tell you which approach your project needs when we quote it.

A passion for
the details.
I'm Michael, the founder of American Patent Drawings. Patent illustration is work I care deeply about: turning an inventor's idea into something clear, precise, and understandable.
What draws me to this work is the detail. The way a part fits. The view that makes a mechanism make sense. The small feature that needs to stand out. A good patent illustration brings those details together so someone else can understand the invention.
That passion shapes how I run APD. I prepare the drawings in-house here in the USA, with no outsourcing. You work directly with me, from the first project discussion through the finished figures.
If you're working on an invention, I'd love to help you illustrate it.
